Welcome to the 34th and last Bundesliga matchweek preview for the 2020/2021 season. It was an unusual season in the German top flight but eventually the standings on the table are very similar to how they always are. Bayern Munich are champions (again) and Leipzig are right there behind them. Borussia Dortmund had a lot of problems this season but eventually they managed to secure a TOP four spot. The final round will decide whether they finish 3rd or 4th as Wolfsburg are right there next to them. Interestingly, Eintracht Frankfurt who were sitting strong in the TOP four dropped down to 5th as they have won only one game in the last five rounds. Leverkusen will finish 6th for sure but the conference spot is still not decided. On top of that, Schalke are the only relegated side as the last round will decide who will join them.
Since the top spots are decided, we will spend this review talking about the games that could make serious impact on the table standings. Bitcoin Betting will be more popular on those games anyway. First, we have Union Berlin hosting Leipzig in the most important game of their season. They need to win to play in the Conference League next season, thus getting an opportunity to feature in the Europa League. Next, we have Werder versus Monchengladbach. The hosts need the win to avoid relegation but Monchengladbach are still in play for the Conference spot. Lastly, we have Koln playing against relegated Schalke. A win on Saturday could save them from relegation but they will need a couple of other fixtures to go their way. For more information about the Bundesliga, check their official website.
Bundesliga Predictions & Bitcoin Betting Tips
Union Berlin vs RB Leipzig
The Iron Union will enter the UEFA Europa Conference League next term should they win here, or match the results of the three sides below them. Encouragingly for them, Union haven’t closed a regular league campaign with a defeat since 2010/11 (W6, D2), scoring after the 75th minute in each of their last five such games. The hosts’ 1-1 draw vs Leverkusen (May 15) in the penultimate round was their fourth Bundesliga game in five to feature goals in both halves. They came from behind to rescue a point, and that match was their eighth in succession to see the home side on the day score first. On that note, Union are yet to taste defeat when netting first as hosts this term (W6, D5). Indeed, home form has been key to Union’s success this season, and they are unbeaten here in matches entered as outsiders.
Despite winning just once in five Bundesliga matches (W1, D2, L2), RB Leipzig will finish as runners up. Though without a first-half goal during that sequence, they look set to finish the campaign with the division’s stingiest defense, conceding a mere average of 0.91 goals per league game this season. The visitors have also conceded just once before the 15th minute – and once after the 75th – in Bundesliga away games this term. As such, they’ll look to finish the away season on a high, by extending a run of scoring in each of their last 13 Bundesliga road trips (W7, D3, L3). The Red Bull side will finish 2nd regardless of the outcome of this match. Their form has been awful in the last couple of rounds so they might end up losing to Berlin.
Union Berlin are the only team in this fixture that can use the win. Leipzig are runners-up regardless of the outcome. Berlin, on the other hand will clinch the Conference position with a win. A draw might be enough but three other teams are challenging for the position as well. Only a victory for Union Berlin will guarantee that they finish 7th. The first time they met this season Leipzig won by a single goal. With home turf on their side, the Iron Union should be able to win on Saturday. With that being said, we are backing a 1X Double Chance outcome @ 1.66 odds.
Union Berlin vs RB Leipzig
Werder Bremen vs Borussia Monchengladbach
Struggling Werder Bremen occupy the relegation playoff spot but will avoid automatic relegation – and potentially the playoff – if they win here. However, no side has taken fewer points (one) or scored fewer goals (five) across the last nine Bundesliga games (D1, L8) than Bremen. In fact, goals have been hard to come by all season with just 34 scored (1.03 on average per game) and no team netting in both halves in fewer games (three). As one of four Bundesliga clubs whose home points tally is lower than their away haul, Bremen can point to some poor first halves for that reality (HT: W1, D6, L9), in which they fought back to win just one of the nine games that saw them trail at HT (W1, D1, L7). Nonetheless, ‘Die Werderaner’ have scored in 12 of their 16 home league games, netting exactly once in ten of those.
Borussia Mönchengladbach are one of four teams hunting the Europa Conference League spot and will be gunning for a win. The ‘Foals’ have been involved in some high-scoring matches of late, witnessing over 2.5 goals in ten of their last 11 Bundesliga fixtures (W4, D1, L6). However, with eight of their 11 league losses (72.73%) arriving in 2021, this game could be tough to call. Gladbach have a disastrous 25% Bundesliga win rate on the road, and have conceded 3+ goals in seven away trips. However they may gain a morale boost knowing they’ve won four of five away games vs bottom-six clubs (W4, D1) but failure to win here would equal their lowest Bundesliga win tally in a decade (12).
It seems the story is always the same when it comes to Werder Bremen. They fall in the relegation playoff spot and then they secure Bundesliga football. However, luck might not be on their side this time. They need a positive outcome against Monchengladbach to save themselves from relegation. If Koln win their fixture not even a draw will be enough to save Werder from relegation. A win on the other hand could completely put them above relegation trouble. However, they need several results to go their way for that to happen. Monchengladbach have something to play for as well. They could finish 7th with a win and if Union Berlin don’t win their game. For that reason, we are backing an Over 2.75 Goals outcome @ 1.59 odds.
Werder Bremen vs Borussia Monchengladbach
FC Koln vs Schalke 04
It’s now or never for Cologne as only a victory can pull them out of the relegation zone, but even then safety is not guaranteed as they will rely on results elsewhere. However with just two wins across their last 13 top-flight matches (D3, L8), grabbing a vital three points could be easier said than done. Currently on course to record their worst-ever home point haul in 49 top-flight campaigns, Cologne have taken a league-worst 11 points from 16 matches on home soil. Unsurprisingly, the ‘Billy Goats’ have led just twice at HT here this league campaign, have averaged a measly 1.19 goals per match, and registered only one clean sheet! There’s positives though, as Cologne are unbeaten in seven straight Bundesliga H2Hs with Schalke (W3, D4 – all venues).
Schalke had their own historic relegation rubber-stamped weeks ago but they arrive at the Rhein-Energie Stadion looking to drag Cologne down with them. A shock 4-3 victory over high-flying Eintracht Frankfurt last time out has raised morale, yet their leaky defense has now conceded 85 league goals – the second-worst backline across Europe’s top-five divisions. No team in Bundesliga history has been bottom of the table post-matchday more times than Schalke (111), and with an average of just 0.48 points per league outing this season – the worst return across Europe’s top-five leagues – they are still hunting a win on the road (D4, L12). In fact, across their 16 away league fixtures they’ve been held goalless eight times, have led at HT only twice, and have conceded a whopping 3.19 goals per match.
Schalke had their worst Bundesliga season in years. That’s why they got relegated with the most awful score of only 16 points. Koln, on the other hand, still have a shot at avoiding relegation. First, they need to win against Schalke and then hope that other results go their way. Werder have a tough fixture against Monchengladbach meaning Koln do have a shot. However, they have to beat Schalke for a chance at surviving relegation. With that being said, we are backing a Home Side Victory & Under 4.5 Goals outcome @ 1.96 odds.
