Two rounds remain in the French top flight and it looks like we will have a new champion at the end of the season. It’s been 11 years of PSG dominance but all things have to end someday. In the last round, Lille secured a comfortable victory against a very tough Lens side. Arguably, it was their hardest fixture from the ones remaining and they passed it with flying colors. PSG, on the other hand, failed to beat Rennes, giving Lille a huge advantage. They are now three points ahead with two rounds remaining. On top of that, Lille have a better record against PSG which means they can even afford to lose one of their games. The fight for the third and last UCL spot is still going as well. Monaco’s advantage is only one point so Lyon is waiting for them to slip up in the remaining rounds.
Bitcoin Betting is bound to be extremely popular because everything is still in play, even though just two rounds remain. Below, we will cover the three fixtures that could impact the table the most. First, we have Lille hosting St. Etienne and if they win, they will be crowned Ligue 1 champions. Next, we have Monaco at home as well. They are playing a tough fixture against Rennes, a fixture they have to win or risk losing their UCL spot. Lastly, we have the holding champions hosting Reims. Sadly, they are no longer masters of their own destiny but they are still not out of the race. PSG need to win the remaining fixtures and hope that Lille don’t win their match-up against St. Etienne. Lille vs St. Etienne
The hosts sit proudly atop Ligue 1 (L1), and four points in their two remaining games would guarantee their first league title since 2011! A strong defense has been integral to their success, highlighted by their league-high clean sheet percentage (55.56%). Consequently, their fixtures have produced a league-low goal average of just 2.33 per game. The division’s leaders have struggled at home recently, claiming just two wins from their previous six top-flight home matches (D3, L1), although, they’ve not conceded after the break across any of their previous 11, which is encouraging. Subsequently, ‘Les Dogues’ are still unbeaten at home in L1 after drawing or leading at HT this season (W9, D4).
St Étienne are reeling after posting their worst points tally after 36 rounds of a L1 campaign since 2009/10 (W12, D9, L15). However, a return of five wins from their previous eight top-flight outings (L3) – the same amount as in their prior 26 – has at least secured them a 18th successive top-flight season next term. Claude Puel’s men have won five (L2) of their last seven L1 road trips – the same amount as in their prior 21 (W5, D3, L13) – while scoring first on six occasions across that period. The H2H history makes for worrying reading however, as the visitors are winless in their last 19 top-flight visits to Lille (D6, L13), with their last victory coming back in 1993!
Lille need to take just one more step and the title is theirs. After what happened in the last round a victory on Sunday will make them champions. Their opponents are quite comfortable sitting right at the middle of the table. Whatever St. Etienne do in the last two rounds won’t change things drastically. They could gain or lose one spot which is not really a motivator for them. We expect Lille to be able to secure a victory on Sunday and lift the trophy thus ending PSG’s run of 11 titles in a row. For that reason, we are backing a Home Side Victory & Over 2.5 Goals outcome @ 2.08 odds.
Lille vs St. Etienne
Monaco vs Rennes
The hosts are pushing for a top-two finish for the first time since 2017/18, and a strong end to the season does look possible based on their record of six L1 wins in seven (L1). Each of those victories were ‘to nil’ and strikingly, no side has conceded fewer goals across the previous 11 L1 gameweeks (four). Their one blemish came via a home defeat vs Lyon in their most recent fixture at the Stade Louis II, ending an undefeated home run stretching nine L1 encounters (W6, D3) and most likely ending their title aspirations. Even including that loss, ‘Les Monégasques’ have proven their efficiency in attack by netting 2+ goals in nine of their previous ten home clashes. The last five in that sequence which didn’t end goalless saw the home side score at least once after the 75th minute.
After two games without victory (D1, L1), Rennes need to get back on track here or risk missing out on a top-six spot. A better start might be key to rectifying their form given that they’ve conceded exactly one goal before HT in their previous three league matches. However it’s been late on when they’ve been most vulnerable on the road, conceding after the 70th minute in four of their previous six L1 away fixtures (W2, D1, L3). Another area of concern for the visitors is their winless away record against fellow top-eight sides (D2, L4). They failed to score over 1.5 goals in all of those matches, something that’s also happened in 11 of their previous 13 competitive trips to Monaco (W1, D3, L9).
Once they lost to Lyon things became very complicated for Monaco. In order to keep their spot on the table which is the last UCL spot, Monaco need to win the remaining two fixtures. Any slip up will be used by Lyon to leapfrog over them. However, Rennes are fighting for a spot in Europe as well as they held PSG to a draw in the last round. Based on that, Rennes are capable to taking points from this Monaco side. With that being said, we are backing a Both Teams to Score outcome @ 1.87 odds.
PSG vs Reims
Fresh from reaching their 19th Coupe de France final, Paris Saint-Germain know that anything less than victory here won’t do as they chase table-topping Lille in an effort to capture their eighth Ligue 1 (L1) title in nine seasons. However, it’s seemed the capital club have been one step behind the leaders at every turn this term, and with a record of W5, D1, L2 over their last eight L1 matches, PSG have stuttered at the wrong time. A major concern for Mauricio Pochettino’s side has been their recent home form where they’ve tasted defeat three times in five L1 matches (W2). Twice in that stint the hosts were kept goalless, conceding more times (eight) than they scored (six) throughout. Despite that, PSG still have the second-best L1 home record, and have beaten a -2 handicap in seven of their 12 top-flight victories here.
A mid-table finish is all but assured for Reims who have had an uneventful L1 campaign. Winless in their last six league fixtures (D4, L2), the visitors will be relying on their solid defense, which has conceded just 1.22 goals per L1 match, to avoid defeat here. Reims will further be buoyed by their 2-0 win at PSG last season which stopped a 44-game top-flight scoring streak by the Parisiens. Remarkably steady on their travels, Reims have scored eight and conceded seven across their last eight L1 away matches (W3, D3, L2) and are five unbeaten on the road (W2, D3). In fact, they’ve been behind at HT in just four L1 away matches this campaign (22.22%), and even claimed points in two of those (D2, L2).
After the draw against Rennes in the last round, PSG’s chances of retaining the Ligue 1 trophy are close to zero. It’s highly unlikely that Lille will drop points in the last two rounds; however, we all know that hope dies last. PSG need to win here and in the last game and then hope for a miracle. Chances are they won’t be able to change anything but they still have to at least try. For that reason, we are backing a -1.75 Asian Handicap outcome @ 1.42 odds.
